This exhibition samples
the work of Jackie Braden, whose pieces maintain balance
and poise, formally and emotionally, yet are notable for
their overall exuberance and element of surprise. One suspects
that intuition could be one of her most cherished assets.
Layering various water media, she occasionally combines
acrylics with charcoal and oil using texturing, patterning,
and sometimes collage to create her inspired abstract landscapes.
In Purple Mountain Majesties she utilizes intense
purples, turquoise, deep blues, and bold orange that punctuates
the composition, then tempers her image with peaches and
pinks that recall cloudless skies and light-suffused shadows.
Braden studied at The University of Cincinnati
CECE under Robert Fabe and Merle Rosen, furthering her education
with private classes under Mary Helen Wallace and Ms. Rosen.
She has exhibited throughout the midwest, and is in the
collections of the International Museum of Collage, Cuernavacva,
Mexico; Catherine Bennett-Webber, Harlan, Kentucky; Mercy
Franciscan Hospital, Fairfield Ohio; Cincinnati Public Library
Cumminsville Branch, Cincinnati, Ohio, among others.
