The paintings of Fr. Andrew
Paul Lewandowski are physically direct and emotionally charged.
Using inventive form and energetic color he describes his
personal inner world, which is sometimes jubilant, sometimes
sad, but always honest and direct; he has a canny ability
to come up with just the right amount of narrative to keep
viewers enthralled. His highly simplified, stylized figures,
decorative designs, exuberant colors and unrealistic spatial
relationships combine to create a poetic voyage into the
internal landscape of the artist; this is an exploration
of one's place in the world. Reflecting a blend of the secular
and the spiritual, his evocative, unpretentious works invite
contemplation of life's journey.
Fr. Lewandowski, O.F.M., is a member of
the Franciscan Province of the Sacred Heart and a Roman
Catholic priest. He has worked in parishes in Michigan,
Illinois, and Missouri and taught High School English, Art,
and Religion in Chicago and Cleveland. Fr. Lewandowski has
a M.Div. degree from Catholic Theological Union of Chicago.
He is presently chaplain for the Franciscan Sisters of Mary
in St. Louis.
