Delicate, yet graphically
bold, the works of Judy Mandolf are like classical music
for the eyes. Each element is so precisely placed that to
move any component would be to diminish the composition.
Her subtlety of color is exquisite. Her emotional appeal
is unnerving.
This series, Passages, involves collage
of her own photos, found objects, travel memorabilia and
organic material such as rocks and leaves. The medium is
encaustic (pure beeswax mixed with damar resin) collage
on wood panel.
This technique dates back to first-century Greece. Using
soft earth tones enriched by the soft, glowing appearance
produced by the medium, these incredible works evoke memories
of her travels to France and Italy. All are one of a kind.
Featured in solo exhibitions in San Diego,
Santa Fe and Taos, NM, and at the University of Alabama,
Mandolf's works have also been included in group exhibits
throughout the country. Her work has been published in numerous
magazines including American Photographer, and is included
in Photographers Forum magazine and Best of Photography
annuals.
