The works of Alfonso Nieto
are based on philosophical idealism. Their general effect
is abstract imagination that fuses instinct and intellect.
Purposely avoiding evident themes to irradiate complex reflections
with surprising intensity, he allows a large degree of spontaneity
in which marks emerge from or dissolve into the background.
He manages to keep the energy and intensity level at a frantic
pitch by means of bold strokes, contrasting colors and a
textural richness to his surface. His content is color's
physical presence.
A particularly evocative work is "To
build." The large canvas bears intense reds, warm golds
and cool purples that constitute an array of abstract possibilities
that are grounded in fundamentals.
Nieto earned his B.A. in Fine Arts from
Universidad de Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Gto. He has exhibited
worldwide in places as diverse as New York City, Houston,
TX, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Guanajuato, Mexico, Nuremberg,
Germany and Greensburg, PA. He earned a Painting Residency
at the Vermont Studio in Johnson, VT, has taught several
classes on the university level and was an active participant
in the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato,
Gto. Mexico.
